In the 5th berakha of the Amida, we request from Hashem "our father" (אבינו), to return us (השיבנו) to the Torah and the proper ways of Hashem. We ask that Hashem bring us closer to the worship of G-d, and allow us to come back to the Torah with complete repentance.
Here, we are able to learn the important trait of forgiveness. Just as we are asking of Hashem to accept us back with our repentance- even if we veer off the proper path- and we hope and pray that he won't close out the opportunity, so too we need to always leave open the option of forgiving others when they have sincerely proven themselves, even if we feel hurt from their actions.
